Russian Choice Breaks Through at Stawell
Three-year-old filly Russian Choice provided a welcome early-season highlight when shedding her maiden status in decisive fashion at Stawell, securing the first winner of the year for Noblet Racing.
The daughter of Russian Camelot was making just her second career appearance in the Russ Studio Jewellers Maiden Plate over 1300 metres, claiming the victory with professional ease.
Partnered by jockey Dean Yendall, Russian Choice broke smartly from barrier seven and quickly settled into a comfortable rhythm just off the speed. Trailing the leader throughout the filly was full of running as they turned for home.
Approaching the 600-metre mark, Yendall made his move, drawing alongside the leader before angling into the centre of the track to deliver her challenge. Once asked to extend, the response was immediate and decisive. She kicked clear as the turned for home, and was just too good, drawing away over the closing stages to score by a length and three-quarters.
It was a bold performance from the promising filly, who proved far too strong when it mattered most, registering a comfortable and convincing victory.
Russian Choice is raced by J. Richards, and on the evidence of this performance, she appears a filly with scope for further improvement as her campaign unfolds.
